Junk Food, Thoughts on Crossfit, Squatting Anthem to End All Squatting Anthems
Hope everyone is enjoying their St. Patrick's Day weekend! Surprisingly (or perhaps not surprisingly if you know my schedule), I actually worked both days this weekend to cap off what's been a busy past few days. That said, you can probably figure out that my St. Patty's day celebrations this year were very tame compared to previous ones....which is probably a good thing. Anyway, I figured it's been a while since I last posted an edition of weekly good reads. Enjoy!
To start off, here's a great article and review of a study that was recently performed involving CrossFit. Specifically, the study looked to see whether CrossFit actually improved several different physical fitness markers in individuals. While a blind look at the study would say that CrossFit is beneficial, the author of this article, Patrick Ward, does a wonderful job reading between the lines. For instance, only 43 of the 54 participants actually finished the 10 week program. (Hmmmmmm, I wonder why?) Anyway, give it a read:
Next, here's a very interesting article on the science of junk food. Yes, you read that correctly. I don't want to give away too much, but if you have a good chunk of time to kill, you should definitely read it (by the way, I wouldn't be surprised if Lay's new "Chicken and Waffles" potato chips were nothing more than flattened styrofoam peanuts dipped in carcinogens..)
The Extraordinary Science Behind Addictive Junk Food
Lastly, it's been a while since I uploaded a new squatting anthem. While you may want to punch me in the face for my taste in music, here's what I was squatting to (alone, with the volume turned up, mind you) this past week....
