Make Goals, Not Resolutions

I really hate hearing about new year “resolutions.”  In fact, I find this term to be about as annoying as “irregardless.”

Oddly enough, I have a favorable view when people tell me about “goals” for the new year.  Before you start telling me that the difference is merely semantics, let’s take a closer look at each one.

For many people, resolutions might be some form of the following (note: the items listed below were once my own resolutions, so I’m as guilty as the next person):

Curls Are (Not Only) For the Girls

I’ve made it no secret that I favor large, multi-joint exercises like pullups, squats and deadlifts.  In fact, if all you ever did in the gym was deadlift and some Turkish Get-ups, you’d be eating a whole, balanced diet.

However, blame it on the new year, how much I’ve learned the past few months, or even the size of my own arms, but there’s one exercise I’ve recently added to my own workouts...

Good Reads of 2012

It’s confession time.

I would like to admit that behind my tough, squatting and deadlifting exterior, I’m really just a big nerd.

What?

Fruit and Vegetable Anonymous

Whenever I stop and look around the supermarket, I’m always presented with a dilemma.  One package says it has whole grains that will help me live longer. Another package says it has a full serving of fiber and omega-3’s that are “heart healthy,” or whatever that means.  Well, as a former marketer, I’m here to say that I’ve had enough with all this scumbag marketing, and it’s time to get back to the actual content of real food.

Awhile back, I posted this video showcasing how, through diet alone, one woman was able to fight and regain her life after being diagnosed and suffering from multiple sclerosis.  Perhaps unsurprisingly, it made me very introspective and I started taking careful inventory of what I ate.  What was “natural,” but still man made?  What was synthetic?  And most importantly, what was actually healthy?  I never realized that figuring out the latter can be a rather tricky task when it comes to processed foods (ahem, if you have to think about whether or not something is healthy, it’s probably not).

Shovel Smart, Exercise in the Afternoon, and Pure Leg Strength

Well ladies and gentlemen, it is that time.  No, it’s not Christmas morning yet.  Instead,  it's time to share a few good articles I’ve come across during the past week.  My mistake if you were expecting another, expertly penned blog post by myself, but I find that sharing a few other articles breaks up the monotony of my own voice.

First up, and obviously most important, is the fact that Gangnam Style made YouTube history this weekend, becoming the first video to ever eclipse 1 billion views!  While I won’t drop the video into this blog post, you can always click here to relive the glory.
